Account Setup
Yes. Setting up a Fred account is quick and easy. Simply answer a few basic questions, choose a username, and you’re ready to start exploring Fred.
You can try Fred free for 30 days. After your trial ends, you can choose between a monthly subscription for $2.99/month or an annual subscription for $29.99/year.
To update your profile picture, go to your Profile and tap Edit Profile. Select the camera icon on your current photo to upload, change, or remove your profile image.
You can manage your preferred sign-in method from your account settings. Go to your Profile, tap Edit Profile, and scroll to the bottom to Login Methods to view and update your sign-in preferences.
Fred includes an in-app tutorial designed to help you get started. To access it, go to your Profile, tap the Settings icon in the upper right corner, and select App Tutorial. The tutorial will walk you through Fred’s key features and functionality.
Groups
Creating a group is simple. Navigate to Friends, select My Groups, and tap the + button in the upper right. Follow the prompts to create your group and start inviting members.
No! You can fully enjoy Fred without joining a group. You can follow other users, discover new and upcoming content, build your own to do list, create lists, browse the Explore page, and use Fred AI—all without being part of a group.
To invite people to a group, the simplest way is to navigate to the Home tab, and from the first carousel, select ‘Add Fred Friend to Group’.
The next quickest way is to navigate to the Friends tab, search them by name or username in the top search bar, and hit invite to group.
From the Friends tab, another way to invite to a group is to select the ‘+’ next to the number of members under the group name, and quickly add users this way.
Finally, if you are inside a group’s feed, you can tap the group settings icon on the top right. Under the list of members, you’ll have the option to search for existing Fred users and add them directly or use the Invite by Text feature to send an invitation link.
If you’d like to leave a group, open the group, navigate to Group Settings, and scroll to the bottom of the page. Select Leave Group and confirm your decision.
The first time you view a group’s feed, there will be a pop up at the top asking if you want to ‘Copy Posts’. Select Copy Posts and follow the prompts to bring over recommendations you have shared with previous groups or followers.
If you missed the pop up or want to this it later, you can navigate to your Profile, hit select on the top right above all your posts, select the Share button, and select groups to copy those recommendations to.
Content & Discovery
Fred is not a streaming service. Instead, Fred helps you discover content and find where to enjoy it. Fred provides direct links to streaming services, book and audiobook platforms, podcast providers, and YouTube videos so you can quickly access the content you’re interested in.
To add anything to a list, open the vertical three-dot menu (⋮) and click on the list you want to add it to. Then go to the My Lists tab to view your complete list with all the titles you have added.
Fred is built around transparent, authentic, user-generated recommendations rather than sponsored suggestions. You can discover new content by exploring what’s trending, seeing what your friends are enjoying, browsing the Explore page, or using Fred AI for personalized assistance.
Yes! To create a new list, go to My Lists tab and tap the +New button in the top right. Once created, you can add content, organize your favorites, and share lists with other Fred users.
To import a list, navigate My Lists and choose Import List in the upper right corner. Follow the prompts to upload or import your content into your lists in Fred.
To share a list with another user on Fred, simply tap the vertical three-dot menu (⋮) to the left of the list and hit ‘Share List’. You can also do this inside the list by selecting the people icon in the top right.
Yes! Under My Lists, navigate to the Shared w/ Me bar then tap the vertical three-dot menu (⋮) to the left of the list, select ‘Make a Copy’ and follow the prompts.
To share content, tap the vertical three-dot menu (⋮) next to any movie, TV show, book, podcast, or YouTube title. You’ll find this menu throughout Fred, including on content cards, lists, and title detail pages.
To send it to just one user, select Share, then choose whether you’d like to send it to another Fred user or share it through text, email, or another app on your device.
To post it, select Post to Group or Followers.
To rate or review content, tap on any thumbnail for a title on any page to open the details for a book, movie, tv show, podcast, or YouTube video. At the bottom of the pop up will be 5 empty stars and a box saying ‘Write a review’. Select a rating or start typing to see a blue arrow to the right of the text box. Hit the arrow to submit your rating/review and follow the prompts to select your review visibility.
Another simple way to leave a rating and review is to select the vertical three-dot menu (⋮) on any title and tap ‘Post to Group or Followers’. Follow the prompts to select your review visibility.
If you’d like to remove a rating or review, simply click the red trash icon next to your review in the title’s detail pop-up, and follow the prompts to confirm deletion.
If you are in a group feed and want to remove your recommendation/post there, select the vertical three-dot menu (⋮) and select remove from group.
Another way to do this is to head to your profile tab where you can easily manage all posts. Select the vertical three-dot menu (⋮) and ‘Remove from followers or groups’.
The Calendar helps you keep track of upcoming releases and important dates related to content you’ve saved to your To Do List. It’s a convenient way to stay up to date on movies, shows, books, podcasts, and other content releases you want to watch, read, or listen to. Select the sync button next to the ‘x’ to add releases to your Apple Calendar.
Yes! If you want to add a note about a title like who told you about it or anything you don’t want to share publicly, you can open the vertical three-dot menu (⋮) and select Add/View notes.
Friends & Social Features
To invite friends to Fred, the simplest way is to select ‘Invite to Fred’ in the first carousel on the home page. Another way is to navigate to the Friends tab and select the Invites toggle at the top. From there, you can share your invitation link through text, email, or other messaging platforms.
To follow another user, visit their profile from a feed and tap Follow. Otherwise, you can search users from the Friends tab by name or username and tap follow next to the search result. Once you’re following them, you’ll be able to see their public activity, lists, and recommendations throughout Fred.
If you’d like to unfollow someone, visit their profile, tap Following, and select Unfollow. You can follow them again at any time.
Account Questions
If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, you can manage or cancel your subscription through your device’s subscription settings.
iPhone/iPad:
Open Settings → Tap your name → Subscriptions → Select Fred → Cancel Subscription.
To delete your account, go to your Profile, tap Settings, scroll to the bottom, and choose Delete Account. Follow the prompts to confirm your request.
